gifting pillowcases

I made a pillowcase for my nephew's birthday last month and it was a big hit. Since then, I've decided to make all the kids in our life pillowcases for their birthdays this year. I like to make the pillowcase in whatever "theme" they are having their birthday party in. It's such an easy, quick gift to make and the kids love it. I usually pair it with a pair of pajamas or a book. I let my son help me pick out the fabrics because he seems to know what is really cool. Yeah, he is only three and half but apparently he is with it in this department.


Oh, and pillowcases look much better photographed with a pillow in them! This might seem obvious but it took me a few pillows to figure this out! :)

American Graffiti

Much of the movie American Graffiti was filmed right here in our little town of Petaluma in 1972. This weekend there was a "Salute American Graffiti" celebration in honor of 35 years since the release of the movie in 1973. This celebration was complete with a re-creation of the cop car scene--taking place at 4:30a in the morning before the day of the event. Read more about it here and see photos here.

Tons of old cars were on display and cruised around the downtown area. We went down for a look and snapped lots of photos.

On another note, we had some strange weather this week. Mid-week we got up to 102 degrees!! And then this weekend we were back down to a more usual mid 70s range. I enjoyed the hot weather and am looking forward to more hot days this summer. The hottest day this week, we played out in the back yard until 8pm just waiting for it to cool down a little. I realize that there haven't been any crafting photos posted here lately. I am hoping to get to the ten different projects that I am working on very soon and have something lovely to post here.

It's May already?

I do not know where April went to. I have neglected posting here for a few weeks...what have I been up to? Well, we went to the Maker Faire this weekend and had such a great time!  I'll post a few photos here later this week.

For now, I need to get caught up on April!  A couple of weeks ago we went to the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Francisco. I hadn't been there since I was a kid and I really need to get over there more often. It is so peaceful. Here is a few shots from our trip there.

I went to our local antique fair last weekend and scored on a bag of vintage quilt squares. I am working on a little craft project with them that I will post here later this week.
