We are gearing up to go on our annual Lake Shasta trip next weekend. My husband and son enjoyed fishing so much last year that I got my fishing license this year too so that I can join in on the fun. We rented a boat for the week and we'll be staying right on the lake. This is our fourth year at this resort and we are looking forward to the trip. I got a new fishing pole this weekend along with my license and I figured I needed a fishing pole cozy to pack my fishing rod in.
I just folded the fabric in half lengthwise sewed bias tape on the edge. It was my first experience using bias tape (other than binding for a quilt) and it made me want to really make this purse pattern that I have had on my to-do list for ages.
The fabric is a blue baby wale corduroy that a friend gave me. She had about 4 or 5 yards of the blue and a purple that had been sitting in her closet forever. I have been using the blue on lots of small projects and it's super soft and I love that it was saved from a closet.
I used my husband's fishing pole cozy as the inspiration for the pattern (he insists that it is a carrying case and not a cozy) . Here is a photo of our two cozies together.

I've been working on a bunch of projects and trying now to play blog catch-up. Your fishing rod cozy is a brilliant idea and your vacation plan echoes ours. We're leaving in a couple of weeks for a lake in the mountains of N.C. where we've rented a house. One of my action items is to learn to fly-fish. My friend Donna is going to loan me the gear I need. I'll have to think about making a cozy for her rods as a thank-you gift.

Oh my! Fishing rod cozies - that's one of the tidiest things I've ever seen. Shannon I've been tagged for 6 unimportant things about me, now I'm tagging you too. I've just posted mine - if you have a chance to tell us 6 things about yourself, join in.
